Locals and visitors are invited to drop by Mudgee's own brewery this long weekend, with the launch of the Mudgee Brewing Company.

Established by two local lads, Peter Shiells and Gary Leonard, the company specilises in handcrafting traditional beer, with the signature beers including Pale Ale, Porter and Wheat.

"The best thing about it, is that it is made right here in our home town," Mr Leonard said.

"We wanted to make a beer we can be proud of, a beer we want to show off to our friends and to the world and say, 'We made that.'"

The brewer prides itself on its passion for creating the tastiest of beers. With the combination of local water and the highest quality local ingredients the Mudgee Brewing Company have created the 'true essence of beer.'

"Every single beer that comes out of our brewery has been made the traditional way, with a whole lot of love, no preservatives, and nothing unpronounceable. Just fresh, wholesome ales and lagers that, unlike bulk-made beer are true-to-style, full of taste, always drinkable, and just a little bit different from the rest," Mr Leonard said.

Mr Shiells said the idea to open a brewery in Mudgee came about back in 2001 when the idea was floated at a Boxing Day BBQ.

"Considering the long history of brewing in Mudgee, our growth as a tourist area, and the increasing interest in micro-brewing, it was a no brainer," he said. "The Mudgee Brewing Company was born."

See how the brewing process works, check out the local stockists, and witness the first batch of locally made beer come in individually numbered bottles.
